Mitera

Some of you reading our blog may have wondered who or what the heck Mitera might be. About a year ago, we decided we wanted Healthy New Moms’ campaign materials and resources to have a symbol, beyond our logo, that would speak to the new moms we hoped to reach.

Kate, one of my coworkers, designed a lovely image, shown above. The image depicts a pregnant woman and symbolizes much of what we are trying convey: openness, support and encouragement. I loved the image so much, I decided to name her. I started doing some searches and came across the Greek name for mom/mum: MITERA.  It seemed fitting.  So, to this day, I always refer to her by her name and we thought it a good title for this new blog adventure!

As the blog grows, we’ll be posting inspirational stories for new moms experiencing postpartum mood and anxiety disorders, helpful articles and resources, advocacy updates in Maryland and news about the campaign. Subscribe to keep yourself in the loop!

From Mitera to you, with love.

– Kari Gorkos, Healthy New Moms Campaign Director
